History
As part of the relocation of the Rusk County ESD #1 to a new operations and training facility, we finally have a singular space to house and review records that pertain to the organizations and history that preceded the Emergency Services District. The Rusk County Fire Protection District #1 has roots that stretch from the early 1980's into the early 2000's when Rural Fire Protection Districts were converted into Emergency Services Districts by action of the Texas Legislature.
Many of our fire departments have a legacy that stretches from the 1920's and 1930's, with more of our rural departments being established in the 1970's through 1990. As time permits, we are compiling a history of the ESD and all that preceded it to have a dedicated page honoring the past and all of those who contributed to it.
The RCESD #1 honors the contributions of the following individuals whose contributions left a lasting legacy on the fire service in Rusk County.
Chief Jim White (Overton VFD)
Chief Pat Owens (Elderville-Lakeport VFD)
We also pay tribute to those who have given their life in service to the citizens of Rusk County in the fire service.
M.V. Hudson, Jr. (New London VFD)
